Poor Tibet

Yes, I agree that China is terrible for Tibet and I for one would like to see a free Tibet. But lets not get ahead of our selves and forget that Dalai Lama is actually the head of an ex-theocracy.

Now, would we really want the Pope to rule Italy, just because he did for ages?

Povera piccola.

home sweet home...

Drifa was released from the hospital on her 3 week birthday. Family life back to normal, just taking one day at a time...of course we are a bit paranoid and constantly checking on Drifa. She is the image of health 4,9kg yesterday. It took Luna 6 weeks to get that heavy. Even with the hospital adventure it sort of feels like Drifa isn't as tiny and fragile as Luna was.

As you can see from the photos, Drifa didn't mind being in the hospital at all...and yes the two sisters do look alike.

Thank God for modern medicine !

Sunday morning we Drifa woke up with high fever and we rushed to the hospital to get her checked out. Long story short, she turned out to have a blood infection and has been on strong antibiotics since Sunday morning. We are still in the hospital and will be until next Wednesday since she is required to finish 10 days with antibiotics directly in the vein.
The stay has been quite difficult emotionally, but Drifa is doing fine and it looks like she´ll be all right. They disconnected most of the tubes on Thuesday, the fever is gone and she is gaining weight...4,5kg this morning. Not bad.

Just to make matters more complicated Luna has gone sick as well, though it is only a passing virus with vomiting and such.

Drifa more than week old

Time flies when you are ... not sleeping. Drifa is already more than a week old baby. It is time consuming having two babies and I can't help feeling that I´m missing out on so much in Luna's life. sniff* The only time of the day I can really dedicate to Luna is bed time and we try to sing together and chat. A little mum daughter time.
Today is Halloween and Luna went dressed as beagle boy 176-167 to the kindergarten. It is a multicultural kindergarten with kids from 17 countries and staff from a few more and they try to honor and celebrate every festival. Last Tuesday they celebrated the Indian light festival. I love this arrangement. The kids have so much fun and learn to respect each other´s culture.
Back to Drifa. She's growing, and she´s way bigger than Luna was her age. Monday we have her third weighting and I´m very curious to see how much weight she has gained. As you can see from the top photo Drifa gets a funny look in her eyes sometimes. As if she is just laughing at us ...in a lovely caring, and a knowing way.

Drífa Rán Solimene

We have decided to give the snow princess an appropriate name, Drífa. The name has a meaning; snow that slowly falls to the ground. We have been calling her Neve (snow) between us since February and she sure turned out to be a little snow princess. It started snowing the morning I lost the 'fake' water and it has been snowing ever since. Just after giving birth to her Marco opened the curtains in the hospital and big heavy snow flakes were slowly falling to the ground, the atmosphere was so peaceful and quiet, somewhat festive.
Rán means wave and is also the name of the goddess of the sea, wife of Ægir from the Nordic mythology.

The snow princess

Here she is! Born 23.10.2008 at 04:35 in the morning. 3,850 kg, 52cm, an utterly gorgeous baby. More photos will follow, but right now I am exhausted. Have the oddest pains in my biceps and my body feels like it just completed a full marathon.

We had a wonderful birth experience, quite different from giving birth to Luna. This time I felt really in control and somehow older and wiser compared to the little lost girl who gave birth to Luna in 2007. I had considered accepting the epidural this time but the whole process evolved in a different direction and in the end I gave birth without any form of pain reducers. After giving birth I had quite a different experience, the placenta was enormous causing quite a lot of blood loss which called for a medical treatment causing violent contractions (very painful after giving birth), plus I needed a couple of stitches. So I ended up accepting quite a lot of drugs and i.v. fluids to stop the aching and the shaking. I even got acupuncture to stop the pains AFTER the birth. A bit of a contradiction since obviously the birth was more painful.

We call her our little snow princess because we still don't know what to call her. It has been snowing since yesterday. Peaceful and familiar, just like her. Luna likes her sister very much. Lot of washing of hands since Luna keeps wanting to touch her lovely little sister.

Where are you baby girl?

We have sure had our selves an adventurous morning.
Woke up with the water gone, or at least that was what I thought. Since Marco was delivering Luna to the kindergarten I called the hospital and asked what I should do.
Since the baby was not yet properly fastened, I was asked to arrive... in an ambulance. :O) Fantastic! I thought the baby would be born in no time at all. Marco arrived in a jippy and we both went in the ambulance to the hospital where I got the fetal monitor and all that.
Result - nothing happening for the time being. Kind of a disappointment. The water wasn't actually the REAL water water, only some in between thingy. But, apparently the baby fixed her self well and proper during the examination. So if the real stuff goes, I can now arrive in normal car and save my self the ambulance ride.
Now have 3 in dilation, possibly more since the examination was this morning and further pains have ensued. Think I´ll just go walking outside since it is snowing and the weather is beautiful. Feels like a perfect day to deliver.

9 months

tic toc

Trallarai! Currently doing what one should not do. Waiting. Today 38weeks, 5days. I know it is early to start waiting, just can't help it. Luna didn't arrive untill 39+4 so if that will be the case, I´ll give birth to "bambinabina" (as Luna calls her) on 23rd of okt. Does that mean she´ll be a scorpio or a libra?

In the mean time the apartment is almost ready. My father has been a fantastic help, I don't really know what we would have done without his help. Really priceless! I feel ashamed to admit that I am currently unbearably picky and difficult to work with, caused of over excess flow of hormones, that often does accompany the last months of pregnancy. Really, a saint!
The only big things now left to do, depend entirely on our tile laying expert and our plumbers. We might be able to start moving in furniture and boxes end of next week. Any volunteers to help?

Have been having strange dreams. Marco as well. Sometimes they overlap each other. Like the dream about Termini train station in Rome and the ancient walls... Did anyone else have that dream just two days ago.

15.okt ...and nothing yet

Still nothing...
...haven't started waiting just yet. But looking at this beautiful full moon, I can't help but wonder.

When?

13 ottobre 2008

Still pregnant...

...with farmer hands. Bloated, big hands!
I still think the princess will be born Wednesday, I keep getting contractions and they ARE getting stronger now. Well obviously the big moment is getting closer by the minute.

4th october car mystery

Family reunited. Sun shining and snow outside. Luna very happy with Marco being back. Has started to speak in full sentences. "Langar í svona!" Translation: "want this". Result of sudden linguistic improvement being several portions of ice-cream and similar.

Today we saw a car in an odd little place. We still wonder how it got there. Can you help us solve this mystery?????

Big mamma!

Slowly turning into something round...with skinny legs attached. 36 weeks tomorrow, the birth of Luna's sibling is getting closer.
Marco is currently in Italy following up on the international affairs of the gypsy scholar world. Luna has been feeling the absence of her dad alot, she is kind of insecure and almost doesn't let me out of her sight. She started 'leikskóli/asilo' 2 weeks ago and it seems to be going well. We´re quite happy with her teachers and the atmosphere in the place. It's a multicultural kindergarten. :O) She gets to do all sorts of things she can not do at home, such as fingerpainting and of course, socializing with other kids. Very important business.

There is a lot to be said about Luna. She is growing up fast and she is so intelligent and beautiful but yet so stupid (as young kids often are). As a result it is quite funny to watch and interact with her, she is just all around super fun to be with. More teeth on the way and she has started to form long phrases containg several words. Some of them even make sense!
Meija drekka acqua = more drink water
Kanin detta, neiiiiii = Rabbit fall down, nooooo
Others seem to make less sense although we understand the REAL meaning of them.
Mamma koma, bank bank = Mum, come knock, knock = mum can I watch Postman Pat (DVD)?
Koma, mús = Mum mouse = Mum, please turn on the 'mouse' music (her special CD)
Koma boom = Come boom! = come and play with me
Then there is the ordering around of the doll and the teddy bears, who only she and the teddy bears seem to understand.

If anyone reads this page anymore. Please tell us when you think the new baby will be born. My guess is 15.oct. Mum thinks it will be october 5.

Ráð gegn 'gengissigi' ?

Jæja, nú ætla ég að tæma alla mína bankareikninga rétt fyrir mánaðarmót og leggja ekki inn aftur fyrr en á nýjum ársfjórðungi bankans (eftir 1.okt). Þá er bankinn allavegana ekki að reikna út gengishagnað á mínum íslensku krónum. Endurtek væntanlega leikinn aftur í lok síðasta ársfjórðungs ef gengið fer aftur 'á sig'.

Þetta er kanski barnalegur útreikningur, en ef ALLIR gerðu slíkt hið sama, sætu íslensku bankarnir kanski uppi í þeirri stöðu að þurfa að kaupa íslenskar krónur (til að geta borgað út innistæðurnar) fyrir evrurnar, jenin og dollarana sína og gætu því ekki sýnt fram á jafn mikinn hagnað og ella. Engin samúð með bónusaliðinu og nei, ég vil ekki sjá evruna.

No photos for a while

Hi everyone! We removed some of the photos from the site and decided to not add any more of Luna until we have a new, password protected site up and running.

Too much "funky" traffic on this site...
